Health & Exercise

Welcome to my little virtual corner for health and exercise! This is where I share how I like to keep in good health and how I move my body. Health has become increasingly important to me as I get older and because this body I've been given is a bit abnormal and requires special attention. However, I won't let that stop me from being healthy and enjoying my favorite physical activities, such as quad-skating!

Journey to Health

I like to share:

  • My goals related to staying healthy and keeping moving
  • How I keep healthy, and what is working for me now
  • Recipes, meal preparation, and menus
  • Walking, hiking, and skating adventures
  • My favorite work-outs, exercise regimens, YouTubers, and programs
  • Gear, gadgets, and reviews for health
  • Health and exercise lists
  • Book reviews on health and exercise related topics

Favorite Things

I am not an athletic person and did not used to enjoy exercise - until I found skating and roller derby! With these new loves in my life, health and exercise opened up to me because I realized my approach had been all wrong. Now that I incorporate FUN into my routines I actually enjoy getting healthy and moving my body. My favorite ways to stay healthy include:
  • Alternative care - exploring and researching methods such as herbal supplementation and acupressure
  • Hiking and camping
  • Hydratation
  • Meal preparation
  • Working on my mental health
  • Nutrition - researching and macro balancing my menus
  • Researching and staying informed on my illnesses and their current treatments
  • Sunset walks
  • Supplementation
  • Skating -  quad-skates of course!

Not-So-Favorite Things

I deal with some physical ailments that I like to research and share my experiences with here. A few of these include:
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Celiac disease - gluten sensitivity auto-immune disease
  • Fibromyalgia - a widespread pain disorder
  • Food sensitivities and IBS - there are many foods on my "do not eat" list
  • Lactose intolerance - and an ethical vegan by choice

Cookbook Review of Power Plates by Gena Hamshaw

This is a vegan cookbook that focuses on including healthy carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in each of the 100 recipes. The book is sectioned into six chapters: breakfast, salads, soups, bowls, skillets and stovetop, and bakes. The recipes in this book rely heavily on grains such as quinoa, rice, barley, and millet and also beans, tofu, tempeh, and a variety of vegetables.

If I had to describe this book in two words: nutritious and vegan.
