Cooking & Baking

Welcome to my virtual kitchen! This is where I share what I cook and eat, and everything that I love about vegan and gluten-free food. I'm vegan by ethical choice (although I am lactose intolerant) and I have celiac disease, so I maintain a gluten-free diet. Even with my food restrictions, I still eat what I would consider a typical vegan-American diet and love to experiment in the kitchen, which is a good thing since I have to make all my food myself!

Journey to Food

I like to share:

  • Vegan, gluten-free recipes
  • Meal preparation and menus
  • Grocery hauls
  • Food experiments and fails
  • Vegan and gluten-free product reviews
  • Kitchen gear and gadgets
  • Food related lists such as my favorite vegan egg replacers
  • Cookbook reviews and those soon to be released

Favorite Things

I cannot say that I am not a picky eater - because I am, very much so. But I still eat all different types of foods and like to experiment with a wide array of ingredients. I enjoy many different types of cuisines from fried foods to gourmet, but I especially enjoy recreating all the foods I used to eat - just vegan and gluten-free!

My favorite cuisines include:

  • American
  • Asian - especially rice based dishes
  • Fusion cuisine
  • Indian
  • Italian
  • Mediterranean
  • Mexican
  • New Mexican
  • Spanish
  • Thai
A few of my favorite foods are:
  • Butter - my homemade butter is bomb!
  • Bruschetta
  • Coffee - Kona please!
  • French fries - homemade of course!
  • Fried rice
  • Garlic - put that shit on everything!
  • Just Egg - I make this a food group.
  • Nachos with layered bean dip
  • Pesto pasta
  • Pizza
  • Potatoes - any way, I like it.
  • Sauces - I like to think of myself as the Sauce Master
  • Soups - I love just about any kind of soup!
  • Smoothies
  • Sushi
  • Tacos
And yep! I can eat all the things above vegan and gluten-free, and with my recipes you can even fool a non-vegan (most the time!).

Cookbook Review of Power Plates by Gena Hamshaw

This is a vegan cookbook that focuses on including healthy carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in each of the 100 recipes. The book is sectioned into six chapters: breakfast, salads, soups, bowls, skillets and stovetop, and bakes. The recipes in this book rely heavily on grains such as quinoa, rice, barley, and millet and also beans, tofu, tempeh, and a variety of vegetables.

If I had to describe this book in two words: nutritious and vegan.
